WARNING: This BBS software is beta testing ONLY. You may use it and
distribute it, at your own risk! This software comes with NO guarantees
whatsoever. It is up to YOU to keep your system running the latest version.
If you fall behind in updates, you may end up getting stuck without a
conversion to the next upgrade! If you cannot deal with this, do not like
the idea of beta testing, or cannot deal with bugs of whatever size, please
do NOT run this software until it is officially released to the public.
Conversions / Updates
Notes on 4-01 and later;
Renegade needs an 80186 or better processor. If you are using an
8088 or 8086, you can replace your processor with an NEC V20 or
V30 processor respectively, for as little as $5.You will then be
able to run most 286 applications.
You can obtain a V20 or V30 from:
Memory Express (800)877-8188
15140 Valley Blvd.
City of Industry, CA
91744
You must update your DOORS, ARCHIVES, and PROTOCOLS to the new
MCI system described in the WHATDONE file.
Notes on 2-28 and later;
You must convert your old ascii #3 color code files with CLRFIX.
Notes on 12-25 and later;
The new multiple subscription (validation) levels REQUIRE that you
go configure them! Level A, if you'll notice, is your NEW USER
level. Set it up accordingly. Config option "G".
NO! The PCR ACS FUNCTION IS NOT BROKEN! It's ZZ now instead
of simply Z!
Notes on 12-04 and later:
I KNOW THERE ARE BUGS in the FILE RATIOS. There is plenty
of extended logging info now, USE IT and report the bugs!
Upgrading to 11-29-92:
The transfer windows DO NOT WORK! Please do not report it as a bug.
Hit CTRL-HOME for help on the new sysop keys.
The pipe system has changed from a variable 1-3 digit system to the
following 2 digit system:
00-15 Set foreground colors.
16-23 Set background colors.
They are set indepently.
Delete EVENTS.DAT. You'll have to redo your events.
Rename *.MSG to *.ASC. and go through your message bases checking the
status of the private flag. You may not want it, and it defaults to
ON in most cases. See Whatdone #421 for more information.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Run RGUPDATE included with this package to update from 7-9-92 to 8-10-92.
Your user file formats have been changed. Many old utilities will not work.
WARNING: Make sure you are using a version of Renemail later than 7-9-92!
You'll need to reconfigure ALL your echomail bases' addresses if updating
from 6-27 or earlier to 7-08 or later!! Go to Network configuration
first and define your AKAs. You *MUST* use Renemail 7-08-92 or later
with this version!!
If you are updating from something older than 4-15 beta, load up each
node you run and configure your modem! Your modem configs were lost!
Copy MENUCMD.MSG to your MISC directory; it provides online help
for menu commands when editing menus!
Copy NODECHAT.MSG to your MISC directory for multinode chat help.
Upgrading from older versions of Renegade beta:
1) Anyone upgrading from anything up to 6-27-92 should run RGMFIX,
which fixes a slight bug in the message storage system. It
will do no damage if run on a later version.
2) If you are updating from something dated before 6-12-92, you must
get and run RGUPDATE to convert your message bases to the slightly
newer format to support internal netmail. You must also obtain a new
RENEMAIL as stated above.
3) If your message base AREAS are messed up, rename your MBASES.DAT file
to BOARDS.DAT, obtain a new copy of and run TG25RG10, and answer "YES"
only to the SECOND question - it refers to "Message base listing"
conversion.
4) If you are upgrading from a version with an EXE file dated 03-12-92
12:50pm or EARLIER, You must contact the author directly for an
appropriate conversion program!
To convert from Telegard 2.7 to Renegade Alpha:
1) Install Renegade
2) Get Josh Lippy's TG2RG103 program and read it's documentation.
4) READ WHATDONE COMPLETELY! It describes ALL CHANGES and NEW COMMANDS.
If you don't read it, you won't know what command keys to change!
